Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Build-a-Bar Team Edition an effective team building activity?

Build-a-Bar combines education, hands-on creativity, and shared experience in a unique setting. Teammates have the opportunity grow closer while learning about chocolate making, tasting together, and expressing creativity through their custom bar designs. The informal, fun atmosphere encourages conversation and connection across departments and seniority levels. Plus, the smell of roasting chocolate is proven to make everyone happy!

Who leads the Team Edition experience?

Team Edition experiences are led personally by our owner, bringing deep knowledge, passion, and engaging storytelling to your team building event.

How is pricing structured for team building experiences?

For Tuesday through Thursday private experiences, the deposit is $750, which covers up to 15 guests (our minimum). Each additional guest beyond 15 is $50. For Friday, Saturday, or Sunday experiences, we require a minimum of 25 guests and a $1,250 deposit to book.

What if our team has fewer than 15 people?

We can still offer a private experience for your group. You'd still need to pay for the corresponding minimum for the day of the week, but in that instance some number of guests in your party would get to make an additional chocolate bar.

What days and times are available?

We offer private experiences Tuesday through Sunday. Time slots generally include 10:00am, 12:00pm, and 2:00pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, we also have a 4:00pm slot available. We can be flexible with timing depending on your party's needs.

Can we book an experience outside of regular business hours?

Yes! Any approved private tasting experience occurring after our shop's normal business hours will be subject to an after-hours fee that starts at $200, and increases depending on your desired start time.

What does my team do during the experience?

Your team will learn where chocolate comes from and how Creo makes award-winning bean-to-bar chocolate. Throughout the 90 minutes, they'll sample our chocolate at various stages. The experience culminates with everyone creating their own personalized chocolate bar, adding whatever toppings and seasonings they'd like, then sealing and packaging them to take home. The experience includes a multimedia presentation sharing the story behind our chocolate and sustainable sourcing practices.

How far in advance should we book?

We require at least two weeks' notice for all private team building experiences. Dates requested less than two weeks in advance cannot be considered. We recommend booking 3-4 weeks ahead to secure your preferred date and time.

Where is the experience held?

All Team Edition experiences take place at our Chocolate Lab, located at 100 NE Farragut, Portland, OR 97211. Parking is available in the lot behind the building.

What should our team members wear?

Comfortable, business casual attire is perfect. We require closed-toe shoes for safety in our working chocolate lab. We'll provide hairnets and aprons for all participants.

Is the space accessible for all team members?

Yes, our Chocolate Lab is walker and wheelchair friendly with accessible parking available.

Can we customize the experience for our company?

Absolutely! We're happy to work with you to tailor the experience to your team's needs. Fill out our booking inquiry form or email aaron@creochocolate.com to discuss customization options.

What if someone on our team has food allergies?

Our chocolate and toppings have no added gluten, soy, nuts, or eggs, but we manufacture on shared equipment with products containing eggs, wheat, milk, peanuts, and tree nuts. Please let us know about any dietary restrictions when booking, and we'll discuss accommodations.

Can we take photos or videos during the experience?

Yes! We encourage teams to take photos to capture the experience and share on social media or internal communications. We kindly ask that video recordings be cleared with us in advance.
